Who was James Penfold?
The Penfolds were a family well established in Angmering as farmers and tradesmen, and James is perhaps the most important figure in The Lamb's history, as the first recorded owner back in 1780. He started The Lamb's life as a freehold, and appointed landlords including Harry Hutchens, and Joseph Collick.
