As you may already know, local ingredients are a big part of our ethos at our restaurant in West Sussex, and that extends to every corner of our menu – including the cheeseboard on our dessert selection. We’re lucky enough to have a tried and trusted supplier of not only quality cheese, but cheese found locally, just a few miles away in Shoreham, in the shape of The Cheese Man.
The Cheese Man is a company with over 50 years experience in the food industry, and deliver a wide range of cheeses, charcuterie and gourmet products to businesses across Sussex in their fleet of specialist vans. One of the things we’re always excited to place emphasis on is that our cheeseboard features cheeses made right here in Sussex and the surrounding areas. They each have a unique flavour, so we’ve detailed each one below…
Brighton Blue – Made by High Weald Dairy, this is a mild, semi-soft cows milk cheese with a mellow blue flavour and a slightly salty finish.
Golden Cross Goats Cheese – Made by a family business based in East Sussex, Golden Cross is a soft, log shaped goats cheese. When young, the texture is firm and grainy, whereas as it matures, it becomes more like ice cream in texture.
Olde Sussex – This full bodied cheddar is made using a traditional recipe by The Traditional Cheese Company in East Sussex, and has an ‘open, bouncy texture’.
Tunworth Soft – Made just across the county border by Hampshire Cheeses, Tunworth Soft is a handmade British Camembert; soft, white, rindless and very much reminiscent of it’s French cousin.
You’ll find our cheeseboard on our a la carte dessert menu as the perfect way to finish off your meal. See our entire menu here.
Running a guest house in Sussex alongside our restaurant means we know a thing or two about memorable hospitality that leaves guests feeling relaxed and well catered for. With this in mind, we thought we’d share some things you can expect when you stay at The Lamb in Angmering.
A warm welcome
We’re a pub that welcomes everyone like friends, from locals we see regularly to those who have travelled further to come and see us. Our business is a family affair, and the people we employ are handpicked for their friendliness as well as their efficiency, so everyone’s on the same page – The Lamb and its customers genuinely matter to everyone.
When you stay the night at The Lamb, you can expect a full and perfectly cooked breakfast included, but also, if you choose to, you can dine in our restaurant for lunch and/or dinner. Our chef has been likened to the best in London – the difference is, we use local suppliers to get the freshest ingredients from our county. Check out our a la carte menu here.
A beautiful place to stay
Not only are the rooms decorated to a high standard, with vintage furnishings and plenty of homely touches, but the pub itself is also a historic building with lots of character. The village of Angmering is beautiful, set at the foot of the Downs and surrounded by places to explore, such as Arundel, Chichester, Worthing and Brighton.
If you’ve never been to the Arundel Festival before, you’re missing a treat. The whole town, which sits just under 6 miles away from Angmering, comes alive during it’s festival, and really brings out the best in this historical Sussex town. Arundel Festival 2018 takes place from 18th – 27th August, and with plenty to do for the entire 9 days, you might want to consider staying overnight – that’s where The Lamb comes in.
In terms of what’s on during the Arundel festival, there really is a whole host of different things happening that not only suit all ages, but make the most of the town’s heritage. There are treasure hunts, art trails, tours, markets, live music, street entertainment, boat (and duck) races, museum walks, and more. The buzz around Arundel during festival time is hard to beat, and it really does make for a magical break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
If you’re looking for places to stay for the Arundel Festival 2018, why not consider The Lamb? Only a short drive away from Arundel, we’ve got beautiful rooms available above our restaurant (check out our TripAdvisor reviews for both our restaurant and our rooms), so you can enjoy a hearty breakfast before the festivities, and a 5* dinner on your return should you wish. View our rooms here, where you can also book online.
Nestled in the heart of beautiful Angmering, The Lamb, in our humble opinion, is one of the best places for lunch in West Sussex. Easily accessible from the surrounding towns of Worthing, Littlehampton, Arundel and even Chichester, and offering a menu cleverly crafted by our talented chefs, we provide both the beautiful setting and the delicious food to make lunch in West Sussex special.
If you prefer a light lunch, our homemade fish goujons are a nod to the nearby coast, and it more than adequately satisfies a tiny tummy rumble. It’s this dish, along with our own take on eggs florentine, that are our personal light lunch highlights. We do offer three totally tempting sandwich options, including salt beef, gherkin and Olde Sussex cheese on rye bread – a particular lunchtime favourites
If you’re in pursuit of the Lamb fine dining you’ve come to know and love from our evening menu, there’s a 2 course set lunch, lovingly put together by our kitchen team and regularly changing to reflect seasonality. At present, it includes confit duck leg, mashed potato, savoy cabbage and jus – a real highlight. If you’re looking for special places for lunch in West Sussex, have a look at The Lamb lunch menu, and get booking here.
