Who was Old Wilkie?
Of all The Lamb landlords, Thomas Wilkinson is perhaps the best known, and is referred to affectionately as Old Wilkie. Born in Northchapel to parents who were licensees of the Half Moon Inn, Thomas took over as landlord of The Lamb in 1850, and was renowned as a jovial man with considerable business ability. One of his most notable achievements as landlord was catering for 2000-3000 people for the Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.
